This series documented Fritz Scholder’s exhibition at TOWER MMK, the first comprehensive presentation of the artist’s paintings, drawings, collages and lithographs outside North America. The commission followed the exhibition’s charged visual field: saturated backgrounds, compressed figures, historical references and pop-inflected distortions arranged through the vertical architecture of the tower. The photographs attend to the tension between colour and critique, surface and violence, and to how Scholder’s images unsettle the inherited regimes through which Native American bodies and histories have been represented.
