Natasha Tontey The Phantom Combatants

Las Foundation at Ateneo Veneto, Venice

Exhibition documentation, 2026

This series documented Natasha Tontey’s multimedia installation The Phantom Combatants and the Metabolism of Disobedient Organs at Ateneo Veneto, commissioned by LAS Art Foundation and Amos Rex on the occasion of the Biennale di Venezia. The photographs focused on the way video, sound, sculpture, red light and architectural intervention transformed the sixteenth-century space into a charged environment of ritual, resistance and bodily metamorphosis. Moving between Minahasan symbolism, military imaging technologies and the spectral presence of Len Karamoy, the work staged the body as a contested territory, where ancestral knowledge, political struggle and disobedient organs become forms of self-determination.
